Chad Kroeger and his Nickelback bandmates, Daniel Adair and Ryan Peake, recently spoke with CHUM 104.5 at TIFF 2023 and discussed what they thought of their fresh-off-the-boat documentary, ‘Hate to Love: Nickelback.’ Kroeger said:

“This one’s putting us into the spotlight as opposed to the subject matter of any song. I mean, we address everything; we are pulling back the curtain, we’re giving everybody a look.”

Peake then took it from Chad and revealed how the doc aimed to give an exclusive peek into the band:

“It’s about a lot [of] the stories we didn’t tell, like, with Daniel and Mike [Kroeger] having some issues and whatnot. I know the title is the title but it’s like… It’s about the history of us. It started out as a documentary just to catalog our history for our family and so, it’s where we ended up.”

Kroeger then revealed how they specifically used the word ‘hate’ on the title to bait the media:

“We also know that if we put the word, ‘hate,’ in the title the media would go crazy for it and you did. [motions throwing a fishing rod and pulling up a bait]”

The documentary was directed by Leigh Brooks and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, with a special screening that featured the Nickelback members. You can watch the trailer below.
