Seeing Brian May’s name alongside other guitar heroes might not surprise you. However, the Queen icon was amazed and excited upon seeing his name and veteran guitar among a fanmade ‘the greatest guitarists list.’ The rocker decided to share and celebrate this honor on Instagram.
“I’m still a kid inside this aged body,” May wrote as he shared the list and decided to pay homage to his guitar and father. “To see my homemade guitar, fashioned with my Dad when I was about 17, pictured among the guitars of all these fabulous players, gives me a primitive thrill of pride.”
Brian May then remarked how much he felt the need to phone his late father and thanked the fan who created the list. The guitarist penned, “I so want to phone my Dad. Thanks, Luis Henrique Toledo, for this collectors’ gem, which might just go on my wall.”
So, the only honor Brian recently had wasn’t being included alongside other guitar legends, but he also received one of the greatest honors a Briton could have. The rocker was recently knighted, shared a video on Instagram celebrating the honor, and appreciated all congratulatory messages.
Brian, or maybe we better call him Sir Brian May CBE, pointed out how surprised and honored he was to be named among this great list even though he has been one of the greatest guitar heroes of the rock scene for decades. So, while his audience appreciates his legendary guitar riffs, we also love him for his ever-modest attitude.
