Former King Diamond guitarist Andy La Rocque has shared his first personal statement following the band’s announcement of his departure and the introduction of Gus G as his replacement.
In his statement, La Rocque addressed the split directly, acknowledging the weight of leaving a band he had been part of for over four decades.
“Hi everyone! Just a short heads up: as many of you have seen I’ve left the King Diamond band,” he said. “Leaving a ‘family’ after more than 40 years full of great music, friends and lots of good memories is not an easy decision but we mutually decided to part ways in a respectful and friendly manner wishing each other the absolute best for the future!”
La Rocque also outlined his plans going forward, pointing to his focus on new music and live performances.
“Now is the time for me to move on with full focus and write some more music and play live with Lex Legion,” he continued. “Thanks for your support, see you out there!”
The statement follows King Diamond’s official announcement confirming the mutual split after 40 years and welcoming Gus G as the band’s new guitarist for composing, recording, and touring duties.
La Rocque’s departure marks the end of one of the longest-running partnerships in heavy metal history. He joined King Diamond in 1985 and remained one of the band’s most consistent and defining presences throughout his tenure. At the time of his exit, he and King Diamond himself were the last remaining members connected to the band’s original lineup, making the split a genuinely significant moment for the band’s legacy.
Gus G steps in as La Rocque’s replacement with an extensive and high-profile résumé. The Greek guitarist is best known as the frontman of Firewind and as the former lead guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne. King Diamond confirmed that Gus G will continue his existing commitments, including Firewind and his solo projects, alongside his new role with the band.
La Rocque’s next chapter centers on Lex Legion, a project he has described as his primary creative focus going forward. The band has already completed work on its first album, signaling that La Rocque’s post-King Diamond output is well underway.
King Diamond’s statement reflected the same tone of mutual respect that La Rocque expressed in his own message. “Looking back, we do so with nothing but pride, gratitude, and respect for everything we have achieved together,” the band said. “All the countless memories we have created along the way are forever.
