Brann Dailor discussed Mastodon’s performance with new guitarist Nick Johnston soon before Brent Hinds’ passing. He addressed how the band has evolved since Hinds’ departure in a statement that surfaced on The Rockman Power Hour.

The drummer’s comments focused on the band’s improved dynamics and performance quality with their new lineup. When asked about the band’s current state with Johnston, Dailor shared his perspective on their recent shows.

“Yeah. I mean, I think every show we’ve done recently has felt it feels better and better, you know,” Dailor said. “It just super tight. It sounds great to me in my ears, you know, and I’ve had nothing but really really amazing compliments from people who’ve been watching the band for many years.”

The drummer emphasized his commitment to delivering quality performances for fans. He also noted the positive atmosphere within the band.

“So, every show I’ve ever gone out to do, I just want to do good for the fans,” he continued. “I just want to bring in the an awesome representation of who we are and the songs and I just want to make everybody out there happy. But I can feel the happiness on stage, too. And it’s just really awesome. It’s been that this whole run. The US tour was really amazing.”

Dailor’s positive remarks come during a significant transition period for the Atlanta-based metal band. The group has undergone major lineup changes after decades of stability.

Loudwire reported that Mastodon parted ways with co-founding guitarist Brent Hinds after 25 years. The band described the split as mutual and expressed pride in their history together. The band has maintained that all 2025 touring dates will proceed as planned, demonstrating their commitment to moving forward despite the significant personnel change.

The transition has also sparked new creative energy within the group. Chaoszine noted that the band has begun recording their ninth studio album. Nick Johnston is reportedly involved in both touring and writing sessions. This marks a fresh creative chapter for the group as they explore new musical directions with their updated lineup.

Johnston’s integration into the band appears to have brought renewed vitality to Mastodon’s live performances. The Canadian guitarist is known for his technical prowess and melodic sensibilities. He has seamlessly stepped into the role previously held by Hinds, contributing to what Dailor describes as the band’s tightest and most energetic shows in recent memory.
