Bon Jovi’s Alec John Such Passed Away, Jon Bon Jovi Bids Him Farewell
Former Bon Jovi bassist and founding member Alec John Such recently passed away. His ex-bandmate Jon Bon Jovi shared a post on his official Instagram page to say farewell to his fellow musician. The frontman expressed the importance of Such for their band and his personal life.
Alec John Such was the bass guitarist and a founding member of Bon Jovi, playing with the band from its formation in 1983 until his first departure in 1994. After a successful tenure with the band for more than a decade, the musician left the group, replaced by Hugh McDonald, who previously appeared on the band’s debut record with the song ‘Runaway.’
Following his departure from the band, Such pursued a career as a manager and worked with numerous local New Jersey bands in addition to running a motorcycle shop in New York City. However, he later played with Bon Jovi at Giants Stadium at the end of their One Wild Night Tour in July 2001. The musician retired from the music industry for good. Still, he rejoined the band for its induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
Since he was a significant part of Bon Jovi’s legacy, Alec John Such’s recent passing shocked his former bandmates. The reason for his death hasn’t been revealed yet. Jon Bon Jovi shared a post on his Instagram account to say goodbye to his friend, stating that he and all band members were heartbroken to hear the devastating news.
The late bassist is referred as an ‘original’ in the band’s statement. Bon Jovi also stressed that every band member found their way to each other thanks to his presence and background with group members. After revealing that Alec was one of the reasons Bon Jovi got together, the singer said they shared special memories, which were bittersweet considering now he’s gone.
In his IG Post, Jovi penned:
“We are heartbroken to hear the news of the passing of our dear friend Alec John Such. He was an original. As a founding member of Bon Jovi, Alec was integral to the formation of the band. To be honest, we found our way to each other thru him. He was a childhood friend of Tico and brought Richie to see us perform. Alec was always wild and full of life. Today those special memories bring a smile to my face and a tear to my eye. We’ll miss him dearly.”
