Bon Jovi fans who purchased premium ‘Gold Circle’ tickets for the band’s Friday gig at Murrayfield have said they feel ripped off. The standing area was seemingly extended to cover almost half the pitch. Fans who paid extra for the Gold Circle package found the area extended far beyond what they expected, leaving many with the same view as those who bought cheaper general standing tickets, according to Edinburgh News.
“I don’t think people realized the Gold Circle would go as far back,” a Bon Jovi fan said. “I’ve never seen it extended like that at Murrayfield. I think people are really disappointed and there’s a lot of angry fans right now. If I’d known I would never have paid so much extra for the Gold Circle tickets, and would just have bought ordinary standing ones. There’s a chance I have exactly the same view as people who paid much less for general standing tickets.”
Another fan questioned the size of the premium area altogether.
“Is this a joke?” another Bon Jovi fan said. “That Gold Circle is half the pitch.”
A third fan indicated they may pursue a formal complaint over the matter.
“If this turns out to be accurate, I’ll be contacting Ticketmaster to complain about being mis-sold,” another fan wrote.
The controversy comes as the Murrayfield show reached its climax with strong demand right up until the final hours before the concert.
Bon Jovi took to the Scottish Gas Murrayfield stage on Friday, August 28. Gates opened at around 5pm, and the band’s main set began at 7:45pm, running through to 10:15pm. The scale of the sold-out event only heightened scrutiny of how the Gold Circle area was configured on the night.
Demand for tickets remained fierce in the days leading up to the show. Scottish Rugby, which manages the Murrayfield venue, released a final batch of tickets for the concert just before the weekend. The organization announced on social media that “the final tickets have landed” for the Bon Jovi date, with support from James Bay.
That last-minute rush appears to have added pressure to an already stretched premium ticketing tier. Resale listings for Front of Stage and Golden Circle packages circulated online in the days before the gig as fans scrambled to secure the best possible standing positions.
The stadium crowd was large, and the premium tier was stretched to accommodate high demand. It is little wonder some ticket holders felt the value of their upgrade had been diminished by the time they reached the pitch.
