Being a famous pop-punk drummer doesn’t mean that one wouldn’t ask for a ‘normal life’ — and in this case, Travis Barker is one of them.
In a new interview with YMH Studios, the Blink-182 drummer was asked if he likes fame. “I don’t really think about it much,” he revealed.
Though being famous has some ‘cool’ sides to it, Barker and his wife Kourtney Kardashian crave a normal life. “I feel like being able to throw 5Ks and raise money for incarcerated firefighters, LAFD, [is] a cool way to use people knowing who I am, but I don’t really think of it other than that. I think if anything, because I’m a dad. I hang out with my kids and I go to the studio every day and run and exercise. I think sometimes me and my wife were like, ‘We just want to be normal.’ We pretty much live a pretty normal life.”
The rocker also mentioned a story of Paul McCartney going through something similar. “I heard someone tell a story one time and they’re like, Paul McCartney, he was telling a story to a certain person I know and he was like, ‘You don’t need a bunch of security, you don’t need a bunch of handlers.'”
“If you want to go to the grocery store, start going to the grocery store, every day at the same f*cking time and let the people at the grocery store get used to seeing you suddenly you’ll do it and no one will bother you. It’ll be really normal,” he added.
Apparently, even owning a fashion brand doesn’t make him feel famous. “I was doing an interview yesterday for this fashion brand that I have, and they asked me how it feels to have a celebrity-owned fashion brand… I’m not a celebrity! I’m a drummer, a husband, a father, a creative and a producer, but I don’t consider myself a celebrity. I’m unapologetically me. I’m just like anybody else,” he said in another chat with Man About Town.
Blink-182 currently has only two scheduled dates: February 13 in Los Angeles, California, and October 18 at the When We Were Young fest.
