Blaze Bayley Resembles His Heart Attack To ‘Blackie Lawless Sitting On His Chest’

Former Iron Maiden vocalist Blaze Bayley had a recent interview with Blabbermouth where he opened up about the heart attack he had in March. Wolfsbane singer explained how and when the heart attack occurred in detail and used an unexpected simile including W.A.S.P. singer Blackie Lawless :

“This is amazing: It was a Saturday afternoon. I’m sitting down at home. I’m getting ready to take my fiancée out for dinner. I sit down and I feel like I’ve got indigestion. I won’t bore you with all the details, but in the end, it felt like an invisible Blackie Lawless sitting on my chest and won’t move.”

Blaze continued by expressing how he felt about the conditions and his surroundings when he had it:

“I live five minutes from the ambulance station where all the ambulances in the area go. The paramedics were going on their break. They heard the call and said, ‘We’ll take that call before our break.’ They were at my house within two minutes. I live near Birmingham. There are four hospitals within 15 minutes. Within 15 minutes, I was treated for a heart attack in the hospital’s heart ward. That was on a Saturday! On the coming Monday, I was booked to start my tour of Europe.”

The vocalist added that the time and place of the incident was convenient:

“Who knows? I could have been alone in the hotel. I could have been in the Eurotunnel. I could have been on the Autobahn — anything. If there was a place where it was best to have a heart attack, I had it there. Right at home. It was incredible. I’m so lucky. They said to my fiancée, ‘He’s going to make it. He’s going to be fine, but if we’d been ten minutes later, I don’t think we’d be here now.’ It was very close.”

In March, Bayley’s management team released a statement about the situation and the postponement of his solo performances in March and April. The post wrote:

“We sincerely regret to announce that Blaze had a heart attack at home yesterday evening & is now in hospital in a stable condition, awaiting news of further surgery/treatment. He is in good spirits in the circumstances but utterly disappointed to have to postpone our imminent shows due in March & April. Ticket refunds will be available at source but we truly hope you will keep your tickets & make it to the new dates which we will be announcing as soon as they are scheduled.
Blaze Bayley’s latest solo album ‘Damaged Strange Different and Live’ is released in July 7. You can listen to the whole album here.
