Mitchell performed several of her hit songs during the Newport Folk Festival concert, but she only played the guitar parts of ‘Just Like This Train.’ As it turns out, Brandi Carlisle coaxed her to do this show.
“I think she’s wonderful,” David Crosby said about Joni Mitchell. “I think she’s the best singer-songwriter of our time, and every bit of ground she can recover is a joy to me. Wasn’t that Brandi Carlisle that did that with her? Man, she deserves a lot of credit. That was a wonderful thing to do. She coaxed Joni into that, and she masterminded that whole thing, and I’m going to find her and say thank you to her because I love her for doing that.”
