“I view the source material as one of the first and most potent examples of the ways in which we are susceptible to the rage and pain that comes from being dismissed. I hope it resonates within ‘Hallelujah’ itself.”

“In short, yes, but it’s more broadly about the fall from grace. That is mirrored in Adam and Eve’s ‘fall’ etc,” he responded. “Paradise Lost is sometimes called ‘biblical fan fiction’ as it’s a non-canonical retelling of the war in heaven and Lucifer’s fall/rise.”

“There’s nothing that is anti anything in this song or the idea. I’m interested in the truth of our social and ideological discourse and the universal feelings we get when we are ‘wronged’ in one way or another, or how I see them anyway,” he said. “I appreciate you being open to it!”
