Black Sabbath Will Release The First Box Set Of Tony Martin-Era Recordings, ‘Anno Domini 1989-1995’

Rhino Records recently announced that the ‘Anno Domini 1989-1995’ box set will be released on May 31.

They shared the details on Instagram with the following post:

“We are excited to announce ‘Anno Domini 1989-1995,’ the first boxed set celebrating singer Tony Martin’s era of Black Sabbath. The set picks up Black Sabbath’s story in 1989, two decades into the band’s ground-breaking career as metal originators.”

Box Set Details

‘Anno Domini 1989-1995’ features four albums from Black Sabbath’s Tony Martin years. These albums are ‘Headless Cross’ of 1989, 1990’s ‘Tyr,’ ‘Cross Purposes’ of 1994, and 1995’s ‘Forbidden’ mixed by guitarist Tony Iommi.

The collection will be available in four-LP and four-CD formats. Some albums will debut on vinyl. The CD version also features three exclusive bonus tracks. Special items in the set include remastered versions of four albums, exclusive tracks, a booklet filled with photos and artwork, liner notes by Hugh Gilmour, a ‘Headless Cross’ poster, and a replica of the concert book from the ‘Headless Cross’ tour.

Martin’s Journey With Sabbath

Body Count’s Ernie C and Ice-T contributed to ‘Forbidden’s original production. However, Iommi didn’t really like this sound:

“I was never happy with the guitar sound, and Cozy [Powell, drummer] was definitely never happy with the drum sound. So, I thought it would be nice to do it for him in a way. I just felt that, without changing any of the songs, there was an opportunity to go back and bring out some of the sounds and make it more what people would expect Sabbath to sound like.”

Black Sabbath’s ‘Anno Domini 1989-1995 will drop on May 31, 2024, in both 4CD and 4LP formats. You can see Rhino Records’ Instagram post here.
