Black Label Society dropped the new track ‘Lord Humungus.’

Black Label Society frontman Zakk Wylde is also a big fan of movies besides his musicianship. He is celebrating ’80s Ozploitation with their ‘Lord Humungus,’ according to Revolver.

The song is inspired by the character from ‘Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior,’ known for his tough, mask-wearing, gang leader role. The band’s song has heavy, gritty riffs and rough lyrics about ‘wheels of rolling thunder’ tearing through a wasteland. Wylde sings about ‘destruction in the air,’ while he and guitarist Dario Lorina play fast solos against an apocalyptic sky.

The video has a fun twist, with the band wearing Humungus-style masks and inflatable sumo suits, riding three-wheelers on a colorful stage.

Black Label Society’s new single ‘Lord Humungus’ comes after last fall’s ‘The Gallows.’ There’s no official word on a full album yet, but the band hinted that their 12th album might be released by the end of 2025.

In an April 2024 interview with Chicago’s Rebel Radio 92.5 FM, Zakk talked about how the songwriting and recording for the group’s next album were going. The guitarist explained, “Actually, when I get done talking to you, I’m going to [my studio] Black Vatican. I’m tracking some more stuff today right now.”

“So during the times I’m home, I’ll be doing some recording and stuff like that for the next album. I’ve gotta pick my spot for when I’m home. Then [I] can do some recording, and then, before you know it, we’re back out on the road again,” Wylde shared.

“We’ve been recording a batch of stuff while we’re home,” Wylde also said in September, via Blabbermouth. “I mean, obviously it’s gonna be a lot of — we’re gonna be doing a Pantera celebration [tour] throughout 2025, and then there’s going to be Zakk Sabbath shows peppered in there as well. So I’d imagine somewhere — I don’t know — maybe late 2025, [early] ’26 or whatever, putting out another Black Label album.”

Black Label Society’s only scheduled show in 2025 for now is at Milwaukee Metal Fest on May 17.
