Billy Idol shared his thoughts about Generation Sex and Frank Carter’s role with the Sex Pistols in an interview with Q1043 New York.

“It was really fun. We got to play Glastonbury in England, and we played like tiny little clubs in France. Then we played these gigantic festivals,” Idol said about Generation Sex, the mashup band featuring members of Generation X and Sex Pistols. “It was kind of crazy. But the mixture was kind of great and it was really fun. It’s just great to play with that classic Pistol sound.”

“It was really good fun although I think what they’re doing by putting Frank Carter… ‘cuz I couldn’t sing all the Johnny songs. I couldn’t do Anarchy kind of thing,” he continued. “So we were doing ‘God Save the Queen’ and stuff like that. But I think with Frank Carter they can do the whole album. So I think they’re enjoying it a lot more.”

“I think it’s great. They’re excited and having fun. They want to play,” Idol added. “I get it that Johnny [Lydon] doesn’t want to do it. He’s into Public Image Ltd. I totally get that. I’m glad they found Frank and they seem to be really enjoying it.”

The band’s current trajectory has taken a significant turn with Carter replacing Idol in the lineup.

Mojo Magazine highlighted the positive reception of Carter’s integration into the Sex Pistols. His presence has brought fresh energy to the iconic punk band’s repertoire.

Carter and the band delivered memorable performances at London’s historic Bush Hall, as documented by Tim Stegall’s Substack. These shows aimed to prevent the venue’s closure. The effort demonstrated their dedication to preserving punk rock’s cultural spaces.

Vinyl Me Please covered their successful charity concert at the Royal Albert Hall. The event benefited the Teenage Cancer Trust. The performance proved the band’s ability to maintain their punk ethos while supporting meaningful causes.

The new lineup has scheduled an extensive tour across New Zealand and Australia. They have also secured spots at major UK festivals. These developments signal a promising future for this latest chapter in the Sex Pistols’ storied history.
