A Perfect Circle guitarist Billy Howerdel has confirmed that new music is in the works, following the band’s release of the ‘Starless’ single in late May.

Howerdel acknowledged the progress on the upcoming album but was candid about the challenges of pinning down a release timeline while the band remains on the road.

“There’s more [music] underway. And in the spirit of soft deadlines, I’m not gonna give you the date, but we’re working toward something,” he said.

He went on to explain how the demands of touring have made it difficult to focus on recording, noting that consistent rest and routine have been hard to come by.

“We’re on tour. It’s hard to get solid things done when you’re out here. I sometimes optimistically think that’s gonna happen, and, like today, we’re six shows in, so we’re about two weeks in, and this is the first day I really slept, even though I might not look like it,” Howerdel continued.

He elaborated on what a productive day on tour looks like and why such days are rare, emphasizing that more of them will be needed before real progress on the album can be made.

“I just slept, went to the gym, ate a meal, got on with you, and it’s not been like that. So to get real cracking on to the new album, it’s gonna be… I need a couple more of these days to line up over the next tour,” he added.

While no release date has been set, Howerdel’s comments confirm that work on a new A Perfect Circle album is actively underway alongside the band’s current touring schedule.

‘Starless’ marks A Perfect Circle’s first new song in eight years, ending a prolonged silence that had left many wondering whether new material would ever arrive. The single’s release signaled a clear creative reawakening for the group. Howerdel’s latest comments suggest that momentum is continuing to build.

The single dropped just days before the band launched its first European and U.K. tour in eight years. The run kicked off in London on June 3. The back-to-back nature of the release and the tour underscores the band’s intent to re-establish their presence on a global scale after nearly a decade away from both the studio and international stages.

A limited-edition ‘Starless’ 7-inch vinyl was also made available alongside the digital release. The move reflects a deliberate effort to make the comeback feel substantial, giving the single a tangible presence beyond streaming platforms.

The eight-year gap between releases has only amplified anticipation surrounding whatever comes next. For a band with A Perfect Circle’s reputation for meticulous, layered songwriting, the wait has historically been part of the process. Their 2018 album Eat the Elephant was preceded by a fourteen-year gap since their previous studio record, making extended silences something of a pattern for the group.

With touring commitments stretching ahead and the creative process still in its early stages, a firm release date for the new album remains elusive. Between the ‘Starless’ single, the vinyl release, and Howerdel’s candid acknowledgment that work is actively progressing, the pieces of a larger comeback are clearly falling into place.
