Bill Ward Drops Final Black Sabbath Show Bombshell

3 Min Read

Bill Ward recently announced on Facebook that he’s open to a Black Sabbath reunion. His post came in response to his former bandmates’ hopes for a new show with all of the original members. The drummer wrote:

“Hey ya; Bill Ward checking in regarding all the updates on a possible Sabbath show in England. I’m in for playing some of everyone’s old favorites. Loved playing them then, I’d love to play them one last time. I’m not going to talk about my health publicly except to say, everyday I’m pretty good for 76 years old, I’m active musically every day, and I have a very busy and gratifying life. Love you all, all the f*cking time.”

Ozzy Osbourne brought up the idea of a reunion during a ‘The Madhouse Chronicles’ episode in May. The singer admitted that he wasn’t satisfied with their farewell tour in 2016–2017 because Ward wasn’t with them.

Tony Iommi responded to Osbourne’s suggestion by telling Eddie Trunk:

“It’d be a nice idea, but you’re gonna get everybody going, ‘Oh, they’re doing it for the money. They’re doing it for this, they’re doing it for that.’ Well, it wouldn’t be. I mean, it’d be something that’d be a nice thing to actually do, but whether it happens will be another thing. But we’ll see. I mean, who knows?”

The Decision Was Up To Bill Ward

Bill Ward left Black Sabbath just before their last album ‘13’ was released. He initially cited contract disputes and later admitted that his health would have made touring difficult.

The drummer pointed to his health as a setback for another Black Sabbath tour in the following years, as well. So, Geezer Butler’s comments on a possible reunion read:

“Uh, I don’t think so, no. I mean, it’d be great if we could, you know, to have Bill Ward involved in it, ’cuz we didn’t have Bill on the last tour that we did or the last album. Ozzy was asking me what I thought doing, like, maybe two or three songs with Bill in the band when Ozzy does his farewell gig, and I’d do it. But it’s up to Tony and Bill whether they’d do. I don’t know.”

An official Black Sabbath comeback show is yet to be announced.
