The TikTok sensation Austin Snell sat down to chat with Storme Warren on SiriusXM about his career and how he found his sound, which is a combination of Nickelback and Alan Jackson in such a short period that led him to have a jump start in the industry.

The singer shared that he grew up on rock and country music which is why his sound came to be ‘grunge-country’ in some ways; where he took inspiration from the four CDs that he listened to growing up, including Alan Jackson and Nickelback.

His single that came out last September, ‘Excuse The Mess,’ was the track that put Austin on the map and skyrocketed his career in a matter of months. The single and his overall sound that he has figured out by making music combines the music he listened to growing up on road trips with his family.

Austin Snell’s words about his inspirations to find his country sound read:

“I mean, that was that’s what I was raised on. I tell this story all the time now; we did a lot of traveling when I was younger; we used to race go-karts all around the state of Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina, so we had four CDs in the truck that we’d rotate through. We had Three Doors Down, Creed, Nickelback, and Alan Jackson, and I think we threw Journey in at some point to that rotation, but yeah, that’s what I grew up on, so I always talk about that.”

He added:

“Not really. I don’t think I think it came naturally. I moved to town with the goal of doing something a little different. I didn’t know what it was going to be, and I didn’t know it would be so soon because I’ve only been here since May of last year; it’s been a blur, it really has, yeah, and so I mean I wasn’t going to put anything out I was going to write and find my sound. We wrote ‘Excuse The Mess,’ and I mean that was just instant like I fell in love with that sound just because of what I grew up on and what I was trying to do in music. It made the most sense for me, so we didn’t have to try; it came naturally.”

Austin’s journey began with listening to CDs by Nickelback and Alan Jackson in the truck. It became the organic sound that came naturally to him as he entered the studio to record music. We can expect to hear some of its effects for sure, whether it’s a single or a whole body of work in the future.
