Anthrax has announced their highly anticipated return with their first new album in over a decade. The announcement was revealed in a statement shared on Instagram.
The thrash metal legends confirmed that their long-awaited 12th album, ‘Cursum Perficio,’ will be released on September 18. This marks their first full-length studio effort in more than ten years. They will also release the lead single, ‘It’s for the Kids,’ on May 15.
“It’s been more than a decade…but we’re back,” the band announced. “5.15.”
This announcement marks a significant moment for metal fans who have been waiting for new material from the iconic band. The release of ‘It’s for the Kids’ this Friday will give listeners their first taste of what to expect from the upcoming album.
The new album represents a major milestone for the thrash metal pioneers, who have been working on new material following their last studio release. Blabbermouth reported that ‘Cursum Perficio’ will be released via Megaforce in North America and Nuclear Blast in Europe. This continues the band’s partnership with these established metal labels.
The album reportedly features 11 tracks, including songs titled “Persistence Of Memory,” “The Long Goodbye,” and “Infectious,” as Loudwire noted. This collection represents the band’s first full-length studio effort since ‘For All Kings’ in 2016. This marks a decade-long gap between major releases.
The album’s title carries special significance. Audiophix revealed that ‘Cursum Perficio’ is a Latin phrase that was engraved on the entryway of Marilyn Monroe’s final home. The phrase translates to “I will persevere” or “I accomplish my course.” This suggests themes of endurance and completion that may resonate throughout the album.
The announcement has generated considerable excitement within the metal community. Fans have been eagerly awaiting new material from one of thrash metal’s “Big Four” bands. With the lead single arriving this Friday, listeners will soon get their first indication of the musical direction Anthrax has taken during their extended hiatus from studio recordings.
