Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser recently addressed speculation about the band’s future beyond their current farewell tour. He suggested that a complete end may not be set in stone. His comments were shared during an interview with Metal on Tap.
Kisser discussed whether he would rule out a potential reunion for him and his bandmates following the completion of their ongoing farewell tour.
“Dude, I don’t rule anything out,” Kisser said. “It’s irrelevant to say if [the retirement is] gonna be forever or we gonna be back. The important thing is that we’re gonna stop now. We need that rest, because we organize everything around that. We need our time — we need time to look in a different direction.”
The guitarist emphasized that the band’s legacy would continue regardless of touring activity.
“Sepultura is not gonna die,” he continued. “I mean, Motörhead is more alive than… Unfortunately, we don’t have the touring, but Motörhead will be together with us forever. So we’re gonna explore different territories and stuff.”
Kisser acknowledged that the future remains open to possibilities. He drew comparisons to other bands who have returned after farewell announcements.
“And the future, we’re gonna deal [with it] when it comes,” he said. “I mean, possibilities are always open. I don’t think we have the power to do eight farewell tours, but who knows? [Laughs] I mean, you see [other bands who announced farewell tours before and then came back or kept touring, like] Scorpions, you see Ozzy [Osbourne], you see KISS and Mötley Crüe and Slayer and stuff.”
He concluded by reflecting on the importance of taking breaks from the music industry.
“It’s okay to rest and to go out a little bit,” Kisser said. “It’s very healthy, because it shows that art is not really connected to any stereotype of what you should be in the eyes of others.”
These comments come as Sepultura continues their extensive farewell journey. The tour has been unfolding across multiple years and continents.
Blabbermouth reported that Sepultura’s farewell tour, titled “Celebrating Life Through Death,” began on March 1, 2024, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The tour is scheduled to continue through 2026. The band plans to conclude with their final show around October 2026 in São Paulo as a major “SEPUL-fest” event featuring invited influential bands.
The farewell tour has taken the band across North America in 2024 with supporting acts including Exodus, Biohazard, and Tribal Gaze. Louder Sound noted that the tour will feature upcoming dates including performances in Atlanta, New Orleans, and Daytona Beach in May 2026. European festivals such as Copenhell in Copenhagen and Tons of Rock in Oslo will follow during the summer.
As part of their farewell, the band released their final EP, “The Cloud of Unknowing,” featuring four songs including “Beyond The Dream,” on April 24, 2026, via Nuclear Blast. The EP has been described as a diverse and emotional farewell that reflects their decades-spanning legacy.
Kisser has also extended invitations to former members Max and Iggor Cavalera to participate in the band’s final show. However, Metal Injection revealed that both founding members have declined the opportunity. Kisser emphasized that the invitation remains open, stating, “If you wanna be a part of this party, you are welcome. If not, that’s fine.” The guitarist had personally reached out to Iggor Cavalera. He suggested the reunion could evoke the atmosphere of their acclaimed 1996 album “Roots” for fans.
