Alex Lifeson has had enough of touring with Geddy Lee after being on the road with him for 40 years.
In the latest episode of SiriusXM’s ‘Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk,’ the Rush guitarist was asked whether or not he would consider going back on the road again. Despite enjoying the shows with Lee, Lifeson insisted there are no new plans not only to hit the road with his bandmate, but he also has no interest in touring in any capacity at all:
“[After] 40 years of touring, I’m not interested in touring anymore. I enjoyed it when we did it. There were lots of ups and downs. The gig is great, the show is great, and for the other 21 hours in a day, you’re just waiting for those three hours.”
Though he overall loves touring, there is still one aspect of it that he still does not like to this day:
“And it gets tiring, especially when you have a family and you have loved ones at home that you’re estranged from for months and months and months at a time. I don’t miss that aspect of it. Do I like playing in front of people? Yeah. I still like that — maybe not to the point where I have to do it.”
Lifeson’s Answer To The Rumors

Rush was active until the passing of their drummer Neil Peart in 2020, but had not gone on tour since 2015.
After their latest appearance on the Taylor Hawkins tribute show, the bandmates did not come together for another show. Despite this, there have been rumors that Rush would come back to play a few more shows together.
The guitarist highlighted being well aware of the rumors and revealed whether or not he and Lee would come back together:
“And I know rumors get started and people have their desires and lots of people would love to see us get back and play again. Well, I don’t know. I don’t know. Who knows? Maybe if we’re together, we’re messing around and we get excited… Certainly after we did those gigs, it was quite heady and very exciting. But I really love my life right now, and I don’t know if I’m gonna disrupt it by being away from the things that I’m really enjoying, for any reason.”
Lifeson Thinks Lee Would Love A Show

Though there seem to be no plans, Lifeson is sure that Geddy Lee would love to work with him when he is ready. The guitarist commented on Lee’s new life and clarified that he was busy being a book author and that he was really enjoying it. Still, the two friends are okay to work together whenever they are ready:
“I’ve continued being that musician, and [Geddy’s] gone off to do other things. So, whenever he’s ready, like usual, I only live five minutes away from him, like we have all our lives. I go over and hang out and we’ll turn the recorder on and do some stuff, but there’s no plan for a tour. There’s no plan for anything.”
So, it does not seem like we will be witnessing any new shows soon, but it’s clear that Lee and Lifeson are still open to working on it.
