Adam Lambert recently appeared on ‘Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen’ and talked about the backlash he received after his American Music Awards in 2010 for being an LGBTQ+ artist. The Queen singer then also added that he was pleased with the acceptance of LGBTQ+ artists today, giving an example of Lil Nas X, expressing:

“That [performance] was in 2010, and to see him [Lil Nas X] be able to get on stage and have backing from the industry and do racy fabulous, you know, edgy performances and finally getting to do that without being canceled or pulled off of a network, it was like okay this is great we’ve come into a new chapter that’s what it felt like to me.”

The rocker also responded to Lil Nas X’s comments from earlier this year about him opening doors for LGBTQ+ musicians. Lambert said:

“Yeah, that was very flattering that he even knows who I am. I think he’s such a rock star and so bold and brave, and I love what he’s doing, so I was very flattered by that.”

Adam has previously discussed the LGBTQ+ experience in different interviews, including in an interview with ‘This Morning’ last month, where the rocker talked about his experience in the industry over the years. He explained:

“For me, being a gay man in media has been a really interesting journey. One that I’m really grateful for, and I think that over the past decade or so, you’ve seen a big shift in acceptance and visibility and all these things. People understand it more now. They’re less scared of it. I think it’s nice to be a part of the force that helps people open their minds.”
