Kyle Gass Shares An Ultimatum For Tenacious D Not To Be Perished

It seems like Tenacious D will either perish or release new songs.

During a new interview with Loudwire Nights, Kyle Gass shared the ultimatum that could save Tenacious D from breaking up soon. When asked about the possibility of new songs, the rocker mentioned their ‘very strict six-year cycle’ and Jack Black’s film schedule:

“[It’s a] classic six-year cycle. I think we might be a little overdue… We gotta do it this year. We can feel the heat, but you know, it’s gotta percolate. We got to fit in between Jack [Black‘s] very busy film schedule. But we’re going to do it. We’re going to get it. Publish or perish.”

If they hold on to their words, Tenacious D will be releasing a new album this year. If not, we might hear breakup news at the beginning of next year.

They Planned A Cover Album

During the same interview, Gass also revealed that he and Jack Black have a hidden stash of cover songs, but it seems they are not planning to share it with the world. Why? In short, copyright issues. Gass said:

“I was really pushing for a covers project and we started going crazy because we have so many ready.”

In fact, the rockers had nearly 30 songs ready, but then decided to do ‘their own thing’:

“We went into the studio and just knocked off, no exaggeration, 30, but kind of short versions just to see how we liked them. We had some trouble getting the rights to one or two and then we got frustrated and said the hell with it. We’ll just do our own thing.”

Tenacious D’s recent ‘…Baby One More Time’ cover could have made it in the album as well. Still, we can expect to hear new music until the end of the year.
