In a recent interview with Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, Zakk Wylde addressed one of the most burning questions about Pantera. Wylde stated that he’s open to new music collaborations with Philip Anselmo and Rex Brown but with one condition. The guitarist explained his condition:

“Yeah, of course. I mean, how could you call it Pantera unless it was just pre-existing material and we were gonna record it — stuff that was in demo state or whatever, and it is songs that the guys wrote. But as far as new songs, it would have to be — you’d call it something else.”

Wylde has been enjoying his ride with Pantera, and now it seems he doesn’t rule out working on new music with the band. When it comes to his condition, Charlie Benante also had similar concerns about making new records under the Pantera name.

Charlie Benante Also Has Concerns About New Pantera Music

Anthrax’s Charlie Benante was also aware of the expectations of new Pantera music. However, as he pointed out in an interview with Breavewords in 2022, Benante worries some Pantera fans might be unwilling to hear new records without Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. The drummer stated:

“Creatively, if we are just flowing and getting going, and things are starting to be really good, musically speaking, you never know what could happen. I’ve got tons of riffs. But we’re putting the cart before the horse. I like the positivity there, but I don’t know how people would react to that either at this point. I think first, let’s get out there and establish that we can play. I’m always open to the future.”

Anselmo Is Sure Dime And Vinnie Would’ve Given Him The Thumps Up

Anselmo, on the other hand, believes that they were properly honoring Dime and Vinnie. In a previous interview with the Metallica Report podcast, Phil stated that he was certain that the new Pantera lineup would have gotten thumbs up from the Abbott brothers. The frontman said:

“The only thing I can say is, man, I know for a damn fact Vince and Dime would want us to do this — hands down. They would want the Pantera brand of the legacy to go on and I don’t know what you believe in, but sometimes, you know, you would like to think that them old fellas are looking down on us, giving us the thumbs up.”
