Wolfgang Van Halen recently addressed fan speculation about potentially contributing vocals to his uncle Alex Van Halen’s upcoming unreleased Van Halen album. He responded to the suggestion during interactions on Instagram.

A Van Halen fan commented on Wolfgang’s post about his band Mammoth’s Cincinnati show. The fan suggested he should collaborate with Alex on the unreleased material.

“Alex should wait and have Wolf sing on the upcoming unreleased Van Halen albums. It would be awesome it would make sense and Ed would definitely approve,” the fan wrote.

Wolfgang’s response was brief but definitive.

“Or not,” Wolfgang Van Halen replied.

Wolfgang shared a video from his band Mammoth’s Cincinnati performance. In the video, he jokingly teased playing a Van Halen cover before performing Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” instead. Wolfgang had captioned the original video with “A serious talk in Cincinnati this evening.”

Wolfgang’s dismissive response comes amid ongoing efforts by his uncle Alex Van Halen to complete a final Van Halen album featuring unreleased material recorded with the late Eddie Van Halen.

National Today reported that Alex Van Halen has confirmed there is enough unreleased material recorded while his brother was alive to create a final Van Halen album. Alex first shared snippets of this unreleased music in the October 2024 audiobook version of his memoir Brothers. This gave fans a preview of what could be the band’s posthumous release.

The project has seen various developments in recent months. National Today noted that Alex is currently working with Toto co-founder Steve Lukather to complete the material. He initially hoped to recruit Paul Rodgers as vocalist, who is now unavailable. Sammy Hagar has expressed strong willingness to contribute vocals to the project.

Interestingly, Wolfgang has already contributed to the unreleased tracks currently under production by Alex, but specifically on bass guitar rather than vocals. National Today indicated that Wolfgang’s bass contributions show his participation in preserving Eddie’s unreleased material. However, his recent Instagram response suggests he has no interest in taking on vocal duties.

The timing of Wolfgang’s response is notable as it comes during a period of renewed Van Halen activity. While Alex works on the unreleased album, the band recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of their 5150 album with an expanded edition released on March 27, 2026. Metal Planet Music revealed that this release features remastered tracks, rarities, and previously unreleased 1986 live recordings from New Haven. This is separate from Alex’s new album project.
