Whitesnake’s Joel Hoekstra Joins Accept, Fans React

Accept recently announced on their official Instagram account that Whitesnake guitarist Joel Hoekstra will replace Phil Shouse. The band stated that Hoekstra would only be joining them for the South American Tour and European festivals. Shouse is confirmed to remain as Accept’s permanent live guitarist for the rest of their shows. The official announcement reads:

“Accept will perform at all European festivals in 2024 and the South American tour in May with Joel Hoekstra. Joel Hoekstra will be standing in for Phil Shouse, who will remain with the band as their permanent live guitarist for all other gigs.”

Following the announcement, Wolf Hoffmann and Joel Hoekstra shared their comments about their upcoming collaboration. Hoffmann stated:

“It is a great honor for us to be on stage with Joel Hoekstra. Joel is an exceptional guitarist, and I have huge respect for him. The whole band is really looking forward to playing with this string magician.”

Hoekstra also commented on his new gig with Accept:

“I’m super honored and excited to riff out and rock out with Wolf and the guys! I’m really looking forward to meeting all the Accept fans in South America and Europe! Let’s rock!!”

The detailed announcement of Accept’s new adventure with the Whitesnake guitarist didn’t involve any specific explanation about the reason why Shouse was replaced.

Fans’ Reaction To Hoekstra Joining Accept

Accept members’ excitement about Hoekstra was evident in the announcement. Most of their fans also provided a positive response to the latest change in the band. However, some of them were not happy with Accept making so many lineup changes over the years. A fan responded to the news with great enthusiasm:

“Wow! Great news! Hope everything is going well with Phil. I’ll love to see Joel with Accept.”

Another Accept fan was also happy that a name like Hoekstra was added to the lineup:

“What a great add. Joel is a class act all the way around.”

However, another fan of the band expressed his concerns about Accept’s constant change of members by stating:

“Changed so many of members that the only guys in the band I know the names are Wolff&Mark…”

Wolf Hoffmann’s Plans For New Accept Album

Accept released their sixteenth studio album, ‘Too Mean To Die,’ in 2021. While the fans have been waiting for a follow-up to the latest album, Hoffmann gave a hopeful update on the new album’s progress in 2023. During an interview with Cassius Morris, the guitarist confirmed that he and Mark Tornillo were working on Accept’s new record. Wolf explained the writing process in detail:

“Actually, I’m sitting here every day working on songs, believe it or not. And I just talked to Mark Tornillo, our singer. He’s gonna come over to Nashville this month for some intense demoing of the new songs. So the stuff is in progress. And I think we’re planning on having Andy Sneap, our producer, come over in August to actually lay down the tracks. And then, yeah, before you know it, there’s gonna be a new album. I don’t have a title yet. I have some songs — about a little more than half are written, I’d say.”

There haven’t been any official updates on Accept’s upcoming album since Wolf’s statement about working on new songs. However, it is safe to say fans will hear new music from Accept soon.
