When Maynard James Keenan Put A Raging Fan In Headlock And Continued Singing

Maynard James Keenan is probably one of the most interesting and mysterious rockstars in the contemporary rock scene and he achieved worldwide fame as the frontman of Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer. However, he’s also a successful producer, actor, winemaker, military veteran, and renowned practitioner of Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

The work that Keenan does is very specific and while there are some who occasionally enjoy listening to the musician’s work, most of his fanbase consists of dedicated followers who know about every detail of his career as a progressive metal musician. However, it looks like there was one fan who knew about the icon’s music career but skipped to read about his interest in martial arts.

Did Maynard James Keenan Attack A Fan?

Back in 1997, prog-metal icons Tool paid a visit to the United Kingdom to promote their second album named ‘Aeanima.’ The band was going to perform at the well-known Astoria Theater, and in comparison to their previous sets, their new sound was more challenging and controversial.

This clearly angered a fan who decided to climb the stage and interrupt Tool’s musings while playing ‘Pushit.’ However, it seems like he forgot Maynard’s interest and talents in martial arts. He approached the singer and was welcomed with a big hug that pinned him to the ground.

Keenan then sat on the intruder and didn’t miss even a beat while showing off his skills. The funniest part was that his bandmates didn’t react either and Tool continued performing their song. After approximately ten minutes, Keenan let the fan go, who stood up looking around a little confused and was led offstage by a roadie.
