Wolfgang Van Halen is the latest artist to join Drumeo’s ‘Heard for the First Time’ challenge.
In this viral YouTube series, drummers listen to songs they’ve never heard before and create their own drum parts. While Wolfgang is mostly known for leading his band Mammoth WVH and playing bass in Van Halen, he is also a drummer and plays all instruments on Mammoth’s records.
For his episode, Drumeo asked Wolf to drum along to ‘Youngblood’ by 5 Seconds of Summer. “I’ve been honestly dreading this to a certain amount because I just have no idea what the f*ck I’m going to do,” he says at the beginning of the video.
After hearing the song, Wolf admitted he had never heard it before, guessing that it might be by Ed Sheeran or Harry Styles.
Wolfgang plays along seamlessly after many takes, and at the end of the video, 5SOS drummer Ashton Irwin reacts to it. He compliments Wolfgang’s playing, saying he’s got ‘great flavor’ and that he is a badass drummer.
