Ville Valo Blasts Bands Like Jane’s Addiction Reuniting

Ville Valo isn’t a fan of bands like Jane’s Addiction getting back together because he thinks they’re not the same anymore.

The former HIM frontman recently sat down with Metal Hammer for a chat and the interviewer asked Valo about his thoughts on big bands reuniting after saying they wouldn’t, like Slayer and Pantera. He reflected on if he thinks it’s cynical, considering his experience with HIM:

“I don’t consider it cynical, because everybody’s got to have bread on the table! I was just wondering whether I’d go see Jane’s Addiction: they’re playing a club tour in Europe. They’re one of my favourite bands of all time, but they’re not the same band I fell in love with when I was 14 or 15.”

The singer also finds it natural as he continued to say:

“They don’t have to be, because people grow up and grow older and do different things. Trying to relive the days of your youth via concert, that doesn’t work for me. It could work more as a memento mori: ‘Oh sh*t, I’m gonna die too!'”

Jane’s Addiction Is An Inspiration For Ville

Valo previously talked about the importance of Jane’s Addiction to him in an interview with Ultimate Guitar’s Amy Kelly. When asked about the story behind the HIM song, ‘Sleepwalking Past Hope,’ the rocker explained:

“It doesn’t sound like Jane’s Addiction, but Jane’s Addiction has pretty long and intricate songs on their ‘Ritual de lo Habitual.’ I was a super-big fan, and that’s one of my favorite albums of all time. So that was the inspiration for me. I just like songs that have a lot of changes in them and go through all the different emotions. Everything cannot happen in 3 ½ minutes. We’re not that generic as a rock band. It’s going to be great to play live.”

In another earlier chat, Ville also revealed that he used to be too nervous to sing in school, but then he got inspired by singers like Perry Farrell from Jane’s Addiction. His personality intrigued him, so he decided to give singing a try. It turned out well for him.
