Picture this: 1995, a buzzing house party, and one memorable photograph of Jennifer Aniston and Adam Duritz locked in a cozy chat. Both were riding high on the waves of success — the actress with the popular show ‘Friends’ and the musician with Counting Crows holding two Grammys.

But for all their shared limelight, the two played their cards close to their chests. Details about their relationship, from their first meeting to their split, remained mysterious and sparked some public interest.

It wasn’t until a 2021 interview with the series ‘Dark Side of the ’90s,’ that Duritz finally cracked the door open to their past. The famous pair, it turns out, met at The Viper Room, a celebrity hub around that era, as a result of some lies.

After confirming that he was a regular at the spot, the vocalist said:

“I met Jennifer Aniston there. A bunch of my friends lied to me and told me she had a crush on me. Those same friends lied to her and told her I had a crush on her. I honestly had no idea who she was, I had been on the road during all of Friends. I had never seen it, I don’t think.”

Aniston and Duritz’s love story didn’t have a long run. The exact reasons behind their split remained buried under layers of secrecy. The actress kept her silence on the topic, and the Crows frontman has only given brief remarks about their fleeting romance.

While he talked about their time together as follows:

“We never even slept together.”

Duritz commented on her ex-girlfriend by saying:

“It didn’t last very long, but she’s a nice girl.”

Fast forward to 1997, and the singer was dating another ‘Friends’ star — Courtney Cox. Unlike his relationship with Aniston, the two’s story, which began on the set of his ‘A Long December,’ stayed off the paparazzi radar. Duritz later shrugged off both relationships in a chat with Men’s Health in 2014.

Addressing the media coverage around his love life in the ’90s, the musician said:

“It wasn’t great for me; it wasn’t great for my band. But it’s nothing I did. I’m not gonna link people’s idiocy to my choices because those were perfectly reasonable choices. They were nice girls, and I went out with them, and that was that.”

After the whirlwind with the ‘Friends’ ladies, the Counting Crows frontman moved on to date Emmy Rossum for a year. They called it off in 2010, and he has been single since.

As for Aniston, she found love with Tate Donovan after her split with Duritz, but the romance ended in 1998. She then went on to make headlines with her marriage to Brad Pitt between the years 2000-2005. Years after her divorce from Pitt, the actress married Justin Theroux, with whom she parted in 2018.
