Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave guitarist, Tom Morello remembered the first time when Styx former lead vocalist and keyboardist, Dennis DeYoung wanted him to play in his upcoming album’s song ‘The Last Guitar Hero.’
As you know, Tom Morello’s latest collaboration with Pussy Riot for the new single ‘Weather Strike’ released on April 30, 2021, Morello. Both the song and the clip were liked and became popular a lot. Previously, it was announced that Morello would play a shredding solo for the upcoming album of Dennis DeYoung.
Shortly after the release of DeYoung’s latest seventh studio album entitle ’26 East, Vol. 1′ on May 22, 2020, his upcoming album ’26 East, Vol. 2′ will be released on June 11, 2021. Both titles were inspired by his childhood home, Roseland. One of the upcoming album’s songs ‘The Last Guitar Hero’ featuring Tom Morello was released on May 11, 2021.
Morello stated that DeYoung wanted him to play the shredding solo of his new song in a very humble way. DeYoung asked him whether he knows his previous works or not. Morello was so surprised and excited because he was a big fan of Styx. He also added that every time he heard its songs, he admired them. So, he answered DeYoung saying that it would be an honor for him.
Here’s what he wrote:
“When Dennis DeYoung (the singer of Styx) sheepishly approached me about playing a shredding solo on his song ‘The Last Guitar Hero’ with the attitude Hi Tom, I’m not sure if you’re familiar with my music but…
I said, Stop right there!! Every single time I’m in my hometown I pack the jukebox at the local bar with those great Styx songs all night long! ‘Man Of Miracles,’ ‘Renegade Suite Madam Blue,’ ‘Mr. Mother Flippin’ Roboto.’ As a fellow Illinois rocker, it would be an honor.”
