Tom DeLonge Shares How He Accidentally Found Out About Mark Hoppus’ Cancer Diagnosis

Blink-182’s Tom DeLonge spoke in a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music and recalled the time when he found out about Mark Hoppus‘ disease by chance.

Back in June, Hoppus revealed that he is diagnosed with cancer, which is stage four diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. He had been sharing updates about his treatment on social media since then. During this period, his friends and fans showed their support to the bass guitarist, especially his bandmate Tom DeLonge. Thankfully, Mark announced earlier this month that now his cancer is disappearing.

In a recent interview, DeLonge mentioned that he accidentally learned about Mark’s cancer diagnosis and said that they were not talking with Mark frequently after Blink-182 was disbanded. Tom stated that he actually called Mark because he need some paperwork to be done that is related to his divorce, but it was the time when Mark told Tom about his health status.

Furthermore, the experienced guitarist pointed out that his relationship with Mark has improved since he learned about the cancer diagnosis, and they started to talk multiple times a day right now.

Tom DeLonge talked about his relationship with Mark Hoppus and how he find out the cancer diagnosis:

“The way the universe works is strange because I reached out to Mark because I needed him to sign this piece of paper that had to do with my divorce. Only because of that call did I learn he had cancer. And he told me on the phone. I was like, ‘Wait, what?’ And we weren’t really talking much at all, maybe once every couple of months, a little text here and there.

But now, we talk multiple times a day. So it’s like we’ve been able to completely repair that friendship and really cut to the depth of who we are as people and what this is all about. And he’s had a really difficult time, but he’s doing really good right now, in the sense of where the cancer is gone, as far as we know, and the chemo worked really well.”

Later in the conversation, Tom touched upon the fact that Mark is now healing up and getting well with time. Also, he said that Mark is emotionally supercharged from where he was.
