The Truth Behind Why Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil Challenged Axl Rose To A Fight
Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil has involved in a heated argument with Guns N’ Roses icon Axl Rose which continued for years. During a previous interview, Neil even invited Rose to a fight which he would like to air live on TV.
Vince Neil and Axl Rose have been among the most controversial characters of the rock and metal music scene considering their chaotic personal lives and their aggressive behaviors against other musicians throughout their careers. However, things got even more interesting when these two unique artists became the opposite sides of an everlasting quarrel.
How Did The Feud Between Vince And Axl Start In The First Place
The origin of one of the most famous feuds in rock music history goes way back to the 1989 MTV Music Awards Ceremony. After Mötley Crüe members presented the Best Group and Best Metal Video to Guns N’ Roses and their music video for ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine,’ they left the building Universal Amphitheatre except for Vince Neil.
The young singer decided to wait for GNR members backstage until they completed their performance with Tom Petty. Later, when Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin returned backstage, Neil punched Izzy in the face to take revenge on him for previously hitting his wife. Axl yelled at Vince threatening to kill him for what he did to his bandmate, however, he didn’t take any action.
Did Axl Threatened Vince Saying ‘Any Time Any Place’
In an interview following the incident at MTV Music Awards, Vince Neil mentioned that Axl Rose had been saying bad things about him and threatening him for years. He stated that Rose told him ‘any time any place,’ which was an open invitation to a fight, according to Vince.
During the interview, Neil turned to the camera and challenged Rose to a fight so that the ongoing feud between them could finally be over. The young vocalist stated that he was gonna give Axl the time and place, but there would be no backing out this time. Vince even added that it was time to ‘put up or shut up.’ Additionally, the Mötley Crüe frontman mentioned that he wanted the fight to take place at an arena full of people and to be televised so the whole world could watch it.
Here is what Vince Neil stated during the interview inviting Axl to a fight:
“He said a lot of bad things about me last few years and a lot of threats. Even on one of your guys’ shows before the MTV Awards. He said, ‘Well, any time any place.’ And right now, I wanna put an end to this and what I want is, Axl if you are watching this, I want to challenge you to a fight. I’m gonna give you time and I’m gonna give you the place. There’s no backing out now buddy. It’s time to put up or shut up.
I’d like to do it at an arena where people can come and see. I’d like to have it televised. I want the whole world to see this fight. I think it’s gonna be great. I’m really psyched for it because I need to put an end to this. It’ll end it once and for all the bad blood between us. So let’s do it. Men should do it.”
