The Reason Muse’s Matt Bellamy Injured Dom Howard Multiple Times

Muse was formed in 1994 by Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme, Dom Howard, and since then, the British band has been creating a distinctive sound by incorporating electronic and pop elements to their rock sound. They released a number of monumental albums including, ‘Origin Of Symmetry,’ ‘Black Holes And Revelations,’ and ‘Drones.’

Just like their music, the relationship between lead singer Matt Bellamy and drummer Dom Howard is undoubtedly one-of-a-kind. Throughout their times as bandmates, the duo was at the center of a funny and dangerous interaction due to Bellamy’s enthusiasm for throwing guitars. Let’s take a look at this unique story together.

Matt Bellamy Holds A World Record

Following the release of their third studio album, ‘Absolution‘ on September 15, 2003, Muse hit the road in order to promote their successful album. While their tour was a success and even got its own live video album released on December 12, 2005, the Absolution Tour also had another interesting aspect of it.

Matt Bellamy loves smashing guitars on stage just like many other rock stars. However, his enthusiasm got him a credit in the Guinness Book of World Records 2010. He holds the world record for most guitars smashed on a tour thanks to destroying 140 guitars during the Absolution Tour.

Dom Howard Suffered From Bellamy’s Actions

Dom Howard was injured by his bandmate Matt Bellamy on numerous occasions all of which were due to his guitar-smashing and throwing. The drummer became the unintentional target of Bellamy’s flying guitars and once was seriously hurt while others were mild injuries.

During the band’s Trabendo gig in Paris in September 2003, the frontman once again threw his guitar in Howard’s direction. The guitar hit him in the face causing a split eyebrow which required stitches and a tetanus injection.

Regarding the incident, Bellamy said:

“I’ve injured poor old Dom in the past. I’ve thrown a guitar in his direction twice and on one of those occasions, I split his eyebrow. He has to get a tetanus injection, which was quite funny. He had to bend over, pull his pants down and get a needle up his bum by a doctor. It was pretty humiliating for him and I felt a bit guilty but I must admit it was also pretty funny.”

This wasn’t the only time the singer injured his bandmate as another ill-thrown guitar hurt Howard’s arm during another show at Turin. The drummer was taken to the hospital and fortunately, he wasn’t seriously injured.

Guitars weren’t the only things Bellamy threw during shows since he once hurt Howard by throwing his megaphone at him after it malfunctioned while performing in Manchester in 2006. Once again, there wasn’t a major injury but the bandmates recall those moments as humorous memories now looking back.
