The Mötley Crüe Member Alice Cooper Wanted To Steal

Mötley Crüe announced The Final Tour, saying it would be their farewell to the metal scene in 2014. The tour started on July 2, 2014, in Michigan and ended in Washington on December 31, 2015. Even though their fans were devastated about the band’s hiatus, they appreciated what they thought would be the band’s final shows.

During their Final Tour, Alice Cooper joined Mötley Crüe as the opening act. Mötley Crüe and Cooper’s remarkable harmony and performance drew great attention from metal music fans. In addition to that, Alice Cooper admired a Mötley Crüe member, whom he wanted to hire for his solo band.

Alice Cooper Wanted Tommy Lee To Be His Drummer

In one of his interviews after their tour, Alice Cooper confessed that he was always looking for new musicians for his solo band while playing or collaborating with other successful bands. After he joined Mötley Crüe’s tour briefly before their hiatus, he decided to invite the band’s drummer Tommy Lee to his band.

Alice revealed that he would have stolen Tommy Lee if Mötley Crüe had disbanded for good. The reason behind his decision was Lee’s successful performance as a drummer. However, Cooper’s dream didn’t come true, and he couldn’t steal Tommy Lee from Mötley Crüe because the band decided to reunite after three years of a break.

Cooper recalled these times saying:

“There was Guns N’ Roses, Mötley Crüe, Cinderella, Poison and all these bands. The thing that I liked about it was glitzy. It was very glitzy and glamourous. So there was the perfect outlet for the three-minute glitzy glam rock and roll show. All these bands had to really look good, they had to play girt, and they had to have hit songs. I mean that’s a pretty good combination.

All of a sudden Mötley Crüe was these guys that look like girls and we’re nailing every girl in town. That was their image. Everybody went well. What’s wrong with that? It seems like the right idea. The thing that impressed me the most about Mötley Crüe was Tommy the drummer. I looked and said ‘Jesus drummer is really good.’ You know a lead singer always looks at a band and says ‘Who can I steal out of this band.’ That drummer was already on my list. I said ‘If this band breaks up, I’m grabbing this guy.’

Consequently, it appears that Alice Cooper has been waiting for an opportunity to recruit Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee for a very long time. However, he couldn’t get it because Mötley Crüe members reconnected with each other more than before after their reunion. Even though they won’t perform live shows after their farewell tour, they will probably continue to write and compose songs together.
