Sadly, when addiction starts taking over one’s life, it usually takes more than one trip to a rehab program to heal. You see, no matter how much rehab might be necessary, it also takes determination and commitment to get better. However, the cruel thing about addiction is that it can take away all your wealth that would help you start a better life with healthier choices.
So, before judging someone who has relapsed after deciding to get sober, you need to take into consideration how addiction is like a vampire, sucking away all your goodwill in life and taking away all the fortune you have to get what it wants. People struggling with addiction can be aware of what is right and wrong and can put two and two together, but we need to know that when the craving starts, they might not be in control.
It was apparent that Steven Tyler knew the right thing to do when he got candid about telling what addiction almost cost him to GQ in 2019. The rocker was aware of how important it was to overcome his problem, as he argued that addiction had nearly taken away everything he had.
“I got a band that’s still together, the guys are still alive, [and] everyone’s healthy,” told Tyler as he listed the things he felt lucky to have in his life. “We play better than we did 50 years ago. I mean, there was a certain rawness when we played clubs, and we were all f*cked up. Sure, I get it. But the band is still together and still sought-after.”
He continued by stating what he would have put at risk if he had relapsed. The frontman noted, “People still want us for a million-plus dollars a night. And that’s what’s at risk if I use [it] again. And my kids. My cats. My dogs. My beautiful f*cking house in Maui. My girlfriend. Everything is at risk.”
It’s sad to know that even though these statements were somewhat recent, as they were recorded only a few years ago, Steven Tyler relapsed last year and reentered rehab. So, as we’ve said, one might know what’s right and wrong and see what they’ve been putting in danger by using substances again, but addiction takes all the truths and determination away.
