The rock producer Eddie Kramer joined an interview with Guitar World and discussed the theory about Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page’s contribution to the Kinks’ ‘You Really Got Me.’ Kramer is sure that Page played in the song, even though Ray and Dave Davies suggested otherwise. Kramer stated:
“I met Jimmy while he was working with the Kinks in the early ’60s when they were doing ‘You Really Got Me.’ I know the Davies brothers will say otherwise, but I recall seeing Jimmy coming in and doing an overdub on that song. There’s some contention about that, but that’s how I remember it.”
Kramer is certain that he saw Jimmy Page joining the recording session of the song; however, the Kinks members denied the theories about the Led Zeppelin guitarist on many occasions.
Mick Avory Denies Jimmy Page’s Claims

Last year, former drummer of the Kinks, Mick Avory, shared his account of the recording sessions in an interview with AllMusic. Avory insisted that Dave Davies was the one who played the guitar parts in ‘You Really Got Me,’ since Page didn’t have the ability to play like that. Mick explained:
“He came into the studio – I think he came in during ‘You Really Got Me.’ He sort of apparently snickered at what Dave had done because he was a more ‘polished player.’ And then he spent the rest of his years saying, ‘I played the solo on it.’ He must have said it because everyone else was asking the question. But that was definitely Dave Davies because even without knowing, you know it’s Dave rather than Jimmy Page. It just wasn’t in him to play like that.”
Both sides shared their version of the story regarding whether Page played the guitar parts in the Kinks record or not. Now with Kramer’s statement, the long-going debate seems not to be ending anytime soon.
