The Beach Boys’s Al Jardine Shares Mike Love’s Most Embarrassing Moment On Stage

Recently speaking to GuitarWorld, The Beach Boys’ Al Jardine recounted an embarrassing incident of Mike Love during a concert at a college in Malibu. Instead of responding on his behalf Jardine shared with us a moment that would put Love to embarrassment. He recalled:

“I can’t think of anything for me, but I recall an embarrassing moment that happened one Halloween when Mike Love got hit while onstage. We were performing at a university in Malibu, and Mike got hit by an egg that was thrown by an audience member. He ran off stage as he was really pissed off. But we kept playing and he later came back on stage. I guess they didn’t like his singing.”

Mike Love’s Embarrassing Hall Of Fame Speech

Mike Love has had a few embarrassing incidents. This one is how Mike Love made a fool of himself in front of an audience of rock stars at the third edition of  Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in New York in 1988. The Beach Boys was inducted that year and they took the stage to make their speech. However, in his speech, Mike Love chose to take shots at rock stars like Paul McCartney, Mop Tops, Billy Joel and Mick Jagger. Love went after Mick Jagger the most. Unaware of what would later happen, Love said:

“I know Mick Jagger won’t be here tonight, he’s gonna have to stay in England. But I’d like to see us in the Coliseum and he at Wembley Stadium because he’s always been chickenshit to get on stage with the Beach Boys.”

But Mick Jagger was in the event that day in fact, later that night, Jagger would perform the Rolling Stones’ ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ on stage with a celebrity chorus of rock stars, including Mike Love.

Love went up to Mick Jagger during the whole concert and tried to get his attention, but Jagger was not interested at all. He didn’t even look at his face. It was one of the strangest moments of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

You can watch the incident below.
