Bay Area thrash metal icons Testament have announced their fourteenth studio album, “Para Bellum,” set for release on October 10th via Nuclear Blast Records, as shared on Testament’s official Instagram.
Nuclear Blast Records provided details about the album’s concept and the band’s artistic direction with this release.
“Bay Area thrash metal icons TESTAMENT return with their long-awaited fourteenth studio album, ‘Para Bellum,'” Nuclear Blast Records announced. “The album, which will be released on October 10th via Nuclear Blast Records, stands as both a battle cry and an observation of humanity’s uneasy alliance with its own creations.”
The label elaborated on the album’s thematic focus and accompanying releases.
“As technology accelerates and disconnection grows, ‘Para Bellum’ sees TESTAMENT reflecting the modern chaos through music that’s urgent, sharp, and unflinchingly human,” they continued. “Experience the whiplash intensity of the new single ‘Infanticide A.I.’ and watch the music video directed by Joey Durango. Para Bellum is available on limited vinyl, CD, cassette and merch.”
The album will be available in multiple formats including limited vinyl, CD, and cassette editions.
This announcement marks another significant milestone for Testament. The band has maintained its position as one of thrash metal’s most enduring acts for over four decades.
I Love Heavy Metal Radio reported that Testament has been a core figure in the Bay Area thrash metal scene since their formation in 1983, originally under the name Legacy. The band is widely recognized as leaders of the second wave of thrash metal and part of the “Big Six” of the Bay Area thrash movement, alongside bands like Exodus and Death Angel.
The current lineup includes seminal members such as Eric Peterson and Chuck Billy. These musicians have steered Testament through decades of musical evolution and critical acclaim. Nuclear Blast Records noted that the band’s legacy includes chart-topping albums such as “The Legacy,” “The New Order,” and “Practice What You Preach.” These releases underscore their influential and sustained presence in the metal genre.
Testament’s longevity in the thrash metal scene reflects their ability to adapt while maintaining their core sound. Louder Sound highlighted that the band has consistently evolved their musical approach while staying true to their thrash metal roots. This approach has made them one of the most respected acts in the genre.
The thematic focus of “Para Bellum” on humanity’s relationship with technology represents Testament’s continued relevance in addressing contemporary issues through their music. This approach has been a hallmark of the band’s songwriting throughout their career. It has cemented their status as both musical innovators and social commentators within the metal community.
