During a new chat with SNSMix.com, Shavo Odadjian talked about why he put his collaboration with Jonathan Davis on hold.

“What happened was the [Seven Hours After Violet] music became really interesting and I started wanting to play this live,” the bassist explained. “I was, like, ‘We should play this live,’ and at that point having just features on the record wouldn’t work out because then how do you play live?”

After deciding that Seven Hours After Violet would be a real band, Odadjian realized it would be impossible to take Davis on tour. He and his team tried changing the song so Davis only sang the chorus, but it didn’t work.

The musician added, “[The changed version] wasn’t as good as it should be, because I think Jonathan is amazing. I even spoke to him [and] we decided if we ever do [another collaboration], we’ll write together, not use something that he already had [recorded] under another rhythm.”

In April 2023, Odadjian said his song with Davis was almost ready for release on the debut album of his new band, Seven Hours After Violet. However, when the album came out last fall, the song was missing.

Other guest vocalists that were supposed to be on the Seven Hours After Violet album included Shavo’s System of a Down bandmate Serj Tankian and former Killswitch Engage frontman Howard Jones. Shavo hinted that Howard’s collaboration might still appear on the next album.

Seven Hours After Violet’s debut album came out on October 11, 2024, through Sumerian Records and 1336 Records. Seven Hours After Violet played their first festival at last year’s Mayhem Festival at the Glen Helen Amphitheatre in San Bernardino, California.
