Teemu Mäntysaari, the new Megadeth guitarist, sat down with Guitar World to discuss his place in Megadeth. During the discussion, the guitarist revealed the band’s plans for a new album, which is, apparently, a ‘Rust In Peace’ like album.
Discussing the pre-production plans of a new album, Mäntysaari shared his thoughts on the last two Megadeth albums:
“The band has such a cool history across all its albums. I know there are expectations, and you can’t please everybody, but there’s a really good continuum from the last two albums. I don’t know exactly, but I think we’ll maybe look to get back to the roots.”
Mäntysaari shared what fans would expect to hear in the new album:
“Maybe you’ll hear some ‘Rust in Peace’ vibes, or maybe some things like the last two. Either way, the direction Megadeth is going now is good, and the vibe within the band seems to be in a very good place.”
Dave Mustaine Wanted To Have More Place In The Album

In the same interview, the guitarist shared the tips and pearls of wisdom the former guitarist Kiko Loureiro gave him. Despite both thinking that Mustaine would like less guitar responsibility in the next album, it was the other way around: He wanted more. As a result, Loureiro helped him the way Mustaine was comfortable with. Mäntysaari explained:
“Kiko was fantastic about welcoming me and training me, and the idea was that he’d maybe spend a little more time so Dave didn’t have to do too much. But it turned out that Dave wanted to do more, so I learned a lot of the practical stuff about being in the Megadeth machine from Kiko. There are a lot of moving parts, and it takes time to adapt to, so Kiko was very helpful with that.”
When Is A New Album Coming?

Following the upcoming support tour for the band’s latest album, ‘The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!’ Megadeth will start working on the awaited album. As it seems, some ‘personal’ things got in the way of the progress. In an earlier interview, Mustaine explained and revealed the time he thinks the band would start working on an album:
“I’m not writing new music at the moment, but I’m getting prepared. And that process — the last couple of records have taken a little bit longer than usual, because of personnel stuff, moving. pandemics, cancer, all that stuff that happened. I don’t think it’s gonna take as long this time from when we start till when we’re finished creating a record. I feel like I still have the mojo in my hands. Probably by the end of this year I’ll be ready to start recording some new stuff.”
As long as nothing else gets in the way, the fans can possibly hear new tracks next year.
