Both countdowns for Linkin Park and Sum 41 are almost over, and it’s now clear that Deryck Whibley isn’t joining the nu-metal band as their new singer.

Linkin Park set up a countdown clock that ends on August 28, and the Sum 41 singer is also hinting at some big news dropping on the same day. Fans noticed this coincidence and started speculating that Whibley might be joining Linkin Park for a reunion tour.

But is it actually happening? “I feel the need to dispel some current rumors,” the singer recently posted on his social media accounts. “It’s been brought to my attention that many people think I could be joining a reuniting band. But I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis… or Linkin Park. Or any other band for that matter.”

He continued, “I have my own ‘tour and book’ announcement that I will now move to the end of the week, ahead of [Sum 41’s farewell] U.S. tour. I do look forward to seeing whatever both these amazing bands do in the future.”

Whibley joined LP on stage several times. Naturally, fans thought he would be a good fit for Linkin Park before announcing he wouldn’t be the new singer. What both bands are announcing is still a mystery, but we will find out very soon.
