Sully Erna Shares Taylor Hawkins’ Wish About Foo Fighters

Following the untimely death of Taylor Hawkins, the industry collectively came together to share their sadness as well as their core memories with the late drummer. Having had several interactions with Foo Fighters and Hawkins, Godsmack’s Sully Erna shared with the Shan Man of 98KUPD radio station that the drummer would want Foo Fighters to continue making music.

Hawkins’ gentle soul must have rubbed on everyone who ever knew him because since his passing many people have shared their sadness about the late drummer’s untimely death. To add to the list of people singing praises about Hawkins was none other than Godsmack’s Sully Erna.

The vocalist had the chance to meet the Foo Fighters and receive their warm energy and positive vibes. He even played ‘School’s Out’ with the band when they performed at Fenway Park in 2015. Sully shared that Hawkins had many plans for the Foo Fighters and the music they would produce for their fans.

Sully Erna’s words on Taylor’s wish about the band follow:

“They’re just great guys. I can’t say enough about them. I’ve grown to love them over the years. I still stay in touch with Dave. Every now and then, we connect and just say hi and see how they’re doing and getting through all the stuff and whatever.

And it’s been extremely difficult for them, obviously, but they’re handling it the best they can and mourning in their own way. And I think they’ll make a comeback. Music is in that guy’s [Dave] blood. I know Taylor would want them to do that. And I don’t think Dave can stay away from music, even though I feel that he was feeling defeated at times.”

He added:

“These are big blows. I mean, he lost Kurt Cobain, and then he lost Taylor, and you start to question whether you want to do this anymore. But when you’re that kind of level musician and artist, and you do it as well as you do at that level, it eventually comes back and will remind you of who you are and what you’re supposed to be.”

It’s far from easy losing a bandmate, let alone a best mate, so the transition was bound to be difficult for Dave Grohl and the rest of the band. Erna, who has been in the room with the guys and seen their chemistry and what they produce when they are together, believes that Hawkins would have wanted the band to continue on this journey. Time will tell whether their fans will agree.
