A Payson, Arizona local had an unexpected encounter with rock legend Alice Cooper, as reported by 12 News, after finding the musician’s credit card left behind at a gas station pump.
Geoff Guy, who was camping in Payson with his family, discovered the card and took steps to return it to its rightful owner. 12 News detailed how the situation unfolded.
“Geoff Guy got to return Alice Cooper’s credit card to the legend himself,” 12 News reported. “He was camping in Payson with his family and had stopped to get some gas and found Cooper’s credit card still in the gas pump. Alice had been golfing up in Payson. You know, he’s an absolute golf maniac.”
Rather than keeping the card or discarding it, Guy took a direct approach to ensure it was returned. “Geoff called Alice Cooper’s teen center in Phoenix and offered to return it,” 12 News added.
Guy himself reflected on the experience and what it meant to him personally.
“You know, the guy’s a legend for people of my generation, that’s for sure,” Guy said. “And it’s uh — I’m, I’m really glad that I could help get it back.”
The incident took place while Cooper was reportedly golfing in the Payson area. It is a passion that runs far deeper than a casual hobby for the rock icon.
Cooper’s obsession with golf is well documented. As one video account noted, Cooper described golf as a replacement addiction after quitting alcohol. He took up the sport because he needed something “as addictive as alcohol.” That context makes his frequent trips to Arizona golf courses far less surprising to those who know his story.
His skills on the course are no joke either. Golf.com reported that Cooper is known as a serious golfer who focuses on control and consistency rather than raw power. That playing style has earned him considerable respect among fellow golfers. He has even reportedly shot a 65 in a round — a score that would impress most amateur and professional players alike.
The teen center that Guy called to return the card is also a meaningful part of Cooper’s legacy off the stage. The Alice Cooper Solid Rock Teen Center in Phoenix has been a cornerstone of his community outreach for years. It provides a safe space and creative programs for local youth. Its role in this story — as the practical point of contact between a fan and a rock star — reflects just how embedded Cooper is in the Phoenix community beyond his music career.
Cooper’s connection to Arizona runs deep. His regular presence on the state’s golf courses means locals are no strangers to spotting him. For Geoff Guy, what started as a routine stop for gas turned into a story he will likely be telling for years.
