Sting recently joined a conversation with Rolling Stone India and reflected on his musical journey, emphasizing the value and joy of collaborations, particularly his latest with Pink and Marshmello, which he described as a mutually beneficial partnership.
The rocker shared his enthusiasm for working with artists from diverse musical backgrounds, like the electronic dance music sensation Marshmello and pop icon Pink. Their collaborative track ‘Dreaming,’ a reimagined version of Sting’s ‘Fields of Gold,’ arrived on October 20. Sting stated:
“It’s a great privilege to work with other musicians, especially when they’re reinterpreting one of my songs because they will bring something to the song that I hadn’t anticipated. They can also bring an audience to one of my songs that I wouldn’t get.”
Expanding Musical Horizons

He went on to talk about his collaboration with Marshmello and Pink, saying:
“Marshmello is very successful in electronic dance music, and so he has an audience. Pink, too, has a different audience to me. So it’s a win-win situation. It’s great fun to do but also commercially, you’re expanding your influence, you’re expanding the power of the song. So, I never say no. I’m always curious what people want to do.”
‘Dreaming’ emerged as a danceable, house-influenced rendition of the 1993 hit and marked a significant addition to the Tour Deluxe Edition of Pink’s latest album ‘Trustfall,’ released on December 1, 2023.
Behind The Scenes With Sting, Pink, And Marshmello
A glimpse into the collaborative process was previously shared on Pink’s Instagram, featuring a video clip from a photo shoot with the trio, along with a brief interview segment. ‘Marshmello was the prime leader of this,’ revealed Sting, with Marshmello himself noting:
“This is kind of the most maybe unexpected collaboration I think any of us ever thought or maybe the world might think.”
Pink added her perspective, describing the project as ‘beautifully random.’ The track ‘Dreaming’ stands among nine bonus tracks on the expanded edition of ‘Trustfall.’
Sting recently announced his Sting 3.0 tour across North America this fall, featuring a new trio with guitarist Dominic Miller and drummer Chris Maas. The tour kicks off on September 17 in Detroit and wraps up on November 13 in Los Angeles. Highlights include a two-night event in San Francisco on November 6-7.
