Stevie Nicks On Christine McVie’s Passing: ‘I Didn’t Know She Was Ill’

The recent news of the passing of Christine McVie has shaken the Fleetwood Mac audience, the rock community, and the late musician’s bandmates deeply. Stevie Nicks also shared a farewell note on Twitter for her bandmate and best friend.
“A few hours ago, I was told that my best friend in the whole world since the first day of 1975 had passed away,” wrote Stevie. “I didn’t even know she was ill… until late Saturday night. I wanted to be in London; I wanted to get to London, but we were told to wait.”
She continued, “So, since Saturday, one song has been swirling around in my head, over and over and over. I thought I might possibly get to sing it to her, and so I’m singing it to her now. I always knew I would need these words one day.”
The singer then dedicated the Haim song, ‘Hallelujah,’ in memory of Christine and signed her note with a promise that the pair would see one another on the other side. Nicks said, “See you on the other side, my love. Don’t forget me — Always, Stevie.”
While saying goodbye to McVie, Stevie discussed how she had learned about her friend and bandmate’s deteriorating health only recently. Even though she wanted to be there for Christine, she couldn’t get to London as they were told to wait. Still, Christine McVie will live on through her notes, catchy melodies, lyrics, and success with Fleetwood Mac.
