Steve Stevens recently took to Instagram to share his thoughts on Madonna’s return following a health scare due to a bacterial infection during the summer.

The guitarist posted a short clip from Madonna’s debut show from the ‘Celebration’ world tour and wrote the following about her performance:

“Madonna looks and sounds fantastic on her tour debut. Particularly moving is her tribute to all those lost to AIDS. Billy, myself, and Madonna all made our mark at the same time in NYC. We rehearsed in the same building.”

Recalling how AIDS impacted the music industry then and Madonna’s support for the community, he continued:

“This was the time when AIDS first hit NYC. It devastated the artist/music community there. This is the community that was there for Madonna from day one, and she has never forgotten it. She is truly part of their community. Always has been. She is the blueprint for every current female pop artist and will be forever.”

On June 24, 2023, Madonna was admitted to the hospital when she was discovered unconscious in her New York City residence. She received care in the intensive care unit and was put on a ventilator. The singer remained hospitalized for five days due to a ‘severe bacterial infection’ that developed after experiencing a mild fever. So, the first part of her ‘Celebration Tour’ in North America had to be rescheduled. In her first statement after the incident, Madonna said on Instagram:

“My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children. My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour. I also didn’t want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone. My focus now is my health and getting stronger, and I assure you, I’ll be back with you as soon as I can!”

Madonna finally debuted her tour in London on October 14 at The O2 Arena. The singer Madonna paid tribute to icons like Prince, Michael Jackson, and Sinead O’Connor on the stage. She also spoke about her health issues, calling it ‘a crazy year.’ During the performance, Madonna also paid tribute to AIDS victims by showing their images on the big screens while singing ‘In This Life.’
