Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt shared a heartfelt tribute to Toto legend Steve Lukather following a night out at a Ringo Starr All Starr Band concert, as reported via Instagram.
Bettencourt took to Instagram to describe an unforgettable evening in Temecula, where he watched his longtime hero Lukather perform alongside a star-studded lineup — and was moved to tears by the experience.
“Just a normal night out in my quiet home town of Temecula … with a Beatle. WTF!!!! A once in a lifetime moment … I am soooo blessed,” Bettencourt wrote. “What a blast this show was to watch! Without a doubt one of best concerts I have been to in decades. I felt like a kid singing iconic song after iconic song screaming at the top of my lungs!”
Bettencourt went on to describe sharing the stage with Ringo Starr himself, before turning his attention to the band’s collective legacy and the emotional weight of the reunion.
“Of course sharing the stage for ‘A Little Help From My Friends’ with THE Ringo Starr who was so wonderful and warm to be around, was a dream come true…But his band of All Stars?!?! Who most are my dear friends and brothers,” he continued. “Got emotionally overwhelmed and teared up seeing them all at once. It’s been decades for some of us. Collectively, the talented artists and writers on that stage, have sold over 700 million albums!!!!”
He reserved special praise for Lukather, calling him one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
“Special shout out to one of greatest and tastiest guitarists of all time … who every time he soloed, melted my face off. One of my heroes, Steve Lukather,” Bettencourt added. “Thanks to my dear friend Greg Classen for putting this once in a lifetime moment together. And ofcourse the SNOBS, Don and Chris, who rolled with me and made the night even more special with brothers to share with.”
Lukather responded to the tribute in kind — with equal warmth and a signature dose of humor.
“Nuno!!! SO great to see you last night.. a wonderful surprise to see my old pal and THE baddest guitar player … no words for could convey my admiration of your playing and music and also our long friendship!!” Lukather replied. “Your incredibly kind words made an old man tear up. I don’t have to blow you now do I? Hahaha. Biggest love and respect! Lets hang soon! Yer pal, Luke.”
The exchange between the two guitar icons quickly drew attention online, capturing both the depth of their mutual respect and Lukather’s characteristically irreverent sense of humor.
The moment carried particular weight given the broader context surrounding both musicians in recent months. Bettencourt and Lukather are part of the same elite circle of rock guitar royalty. Their paths have long intersected through the wider ecosystem of high-profile guitar collaborations, making this reunion all the more meaningful for fans of both artists.
As Beatles Magazine reported, the May 28, 2026 concert at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula featured Steve Lukather as part of Ringo Starr’s All Starr Band lineup, with Bettencourt in attendance. It was a convergence of rock royalty that set the stage for the emotional Instagram exchange that followed.
Lukather’s profile has also been elevated recently by a significant development in the Van Halen world. Guitar World reported that Alex Van Halen teamed up with Steve Lukather to help bring one final Van Halen record to life. The project has placed Lukather at the center of one of rock’s most emotionally charged stories and underscored his enduring stature as one of the genre’s most trusted guitar voices.
Bettencourt, meanwhile, has remained a fixture in the upper echelons of guitar culture. As noted by Riverbend, Bettencourt was part of Steve Vai’s Generation Axe — a supergroup that also featured Zakk Wylde, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Tosin Abasi. The project further cemented his reputation as one of the most respected guitarists of his generation and a natural peer to legends like Lukather.
The intersection of these two careers at a Ringo Starr concert, then, was no ordinary fan encounter. It was a meeting of two musicians who have each spent decades earning their place among rock’s elite — and whose mutual admiration, as their Instagram exchange made clear, runs far deeper than a single night in Temecula.
