Slaughter to Prevail frontman Alex Terrible recently opened up about his complicated relationship with fame and the rock star lifestyle. He shared his thoughts in an interview on The Ariel Helwani Show.
The metal vocalist addressed his feelings about fame and attention. He explained how his perspective on being a rock star has evolved over the years.
When asked about battling the juxtaposition of career success while wanting to stay home with family, Terrible reflected on when these feelings began.
“Actually maybe 6 years ago or something like that. Because I always wanted to be a rockstar, but I didn’t understand what it is, you know, because people always want to be that guy or this guy or do this or do that, but they don’t. They have no idea what exactly it is and what’s the price you’re going to pay,” he said.
The frontman went on to explain his current stance on fame and his introverted nature.
“So, it’s just not for me. I’m not rockstar at all. I don’t like attention. I appreciate all my fans. Uh I’m taking pictures with them. I try to speak with them, but I’m introverted guy very much. I hate attention,” he continued.
Terrible also described the contrast between his stage persona and his private self.
“It’s another side of me. On the stage, I’m just I’m not playing the role, but it’s just another person. And when I walk off, I’m here. I’m back, you know?” he explained.
Terrible’s aversion to the spotlight stands in stark contrast to the massive success Slaughter to Prevail has achieved since he joined as frontman in 2014.
Hypebot reported that the band has been packing venues and performing at major festivals like Hellfest, demonstrating their significant draw in the metal scene. The Russian vocalist’s journey to fame began in humble circumstances. He forged his distinctive monstrous vocals from a small bedroom in the cold, rural Russian city of Yekaterinburg before connecting online with guitarist Jack Simmons from the UK.
Despite his discomfort with celebrity attention, Terrible channels his intensity into other pursuits that align more closely with his personality. The frontman has been actively involved in bare-knuckle fighting, including a notable 37-second knockout victory in Russia’s RCC Bare Knuckle competition. He has an upcoming bout scheduled for BKFC on May 6.
His interests extend beyond conventional combat sports to more extreme challenges. Terrible has spoken about wrestling bears in Siberia, revealing a personality drawn to raw, unforgiving challenges rather than the glamorous aspects of rock stardom. These pursuits reflect his preference for authentic, gritty experiences over the manufactured aspects of fame.
The contrast between Terrible’s stage presence and his private preferences highlights a common struggle among performers who achieve unexpected levels of success. His story underscores a self-made path that prioritizes brotherhood and authenticity over celebrity attention. This makes his recent candid discussion about fame all the more significant for fans trying to understand the man behind the intense performances.
