Slash Clears the Air About His True Relationship with Axl Rose After All the Tension

Slash recently commented on the improved chemistry within Guns N’ Roses. He addressed the band’s dynamics in a statement shared on Guitar World.

When asked about the stronger chemistry within the band, Slash reflected on how past management issues had created tension between band members. He explained that without those divisive elements, the relationships have flourished.

“I have no idea,” Slash said with a laugh when asked about the chemistry. “I think a lot of the stuff that was an issue for Guns in the early days – especially in the Nineties – had to do with management issues and stuff that pitted me and Axl against each other. And it worked; it definitely worked.”

The guitarist highlighted the positive relationships he maintains with each band member. He emphasized the collaborative spirit that now defines the group.

“But without that element, he and I get along great. Duff and I have always gotten along great, and I love working with Richard Fortus. He and I make a really great guitar team, and he’s just a good guy. We all get along really well, and we have a good time doing what we do,” Slash continued.

The current harmony within Guns N’ Roses stands in stark contrast to the band’s turbulent history. Slash officially rejoined Guns N’ Roses in 2016 after a 20-year absence, according to American Songwriter. This marked a pivotal moment in his relationship with Axl Rose.

This reunion represented far more than a simple comeback. It was a reconciliation that fundamentally altered the band’s trajectory. Slash described that reconciliation as a “huge weight lifted off of our shoulders.” Reconnecting helped revive the band’s legendary chemistry both on and off stage.

The guitarist’s return signaled to fans worldwide that the deep-seated conflicts of the past had finally been resolved. It paved the way for a genuine creative partnership. Loudwire reported that the feud between Slash and Axl Rose had defined much of the band’s narrative for decades. The two musicians maintained separate careers and public tensions throughout the 1990s and 2000s. The 2016 reunion effectively ended this chapter, allowing both artists to move forward without the baggage of old grievances.

The reunion has also energized the band’s live performances. The current lineup draws large crowds worldwide. Recent reports indicate that Guns N’ Roses has been rekindling the spirit of their earlier days and injecting new energy into their recent tours. This resurgence demonstrates that stepping away from the conflicts that once defined a relationship can lead to something even stronger than what came before.
