In a series of recent posts on X, Sean Ono Lennon stated that John Lennon and Yoko Ono schooled him in hippie absurdities.

Sean initially wrote the following about Mercury being in retrograde:

“Worrying about Mercury being in retrograde is like worrying that someone is shrinking because they’re walking away from you.”

A user replied with a comment about his late father and referred to a rumor, saying:

“I’ve always wondered if it’s true that your dad had a period where he wouldn’t leave the house if Mercury was in retrograde.”

Lennon then added, confirming the user’s point:

“My parents were obsessed with astrology, which has a lot to do with my feelings on it. Some went to catholic school. I was trained in hippie nonsense.”

Yoko Ono’s Astrological Influence

It is known that Yoko Ono had an interest in astrology that influenced significant decisions in their lives. Yoko was known to consult astrologers and was reportedly interested in the way astrological signs impacted personality and destiny.

For instance, during a 1969 trip to Athens, Yoko and John visited an astrologer who warned Lennon that he would be shot on an island. This led him and Ono to cancel a boat trip around the Greek Islands. Although he wasn’t shot in Greece, he was tragically killed in New York, an American island, in 1980. Yoko mentioned this prophecy in a 2000 chat with Mr. Mastorakis, saying:

“We would never think of Manhattan as an island in that context. I totally believe that some people are psychic, and the message comes through some people. In our case, she told us that, but we were not careful in the way we should have been. We were careful, but in the wrong way, as we did not go to the Greek Islands.”

Yoko sometimes used astrology or numerology to make money decisions, and both she and John were very cautious about bad luck affecting their happiness. For their ‘Double Fantasy’ album, John temporarily renamed the song ‘Losing You’ to ‘(Afraid I’m) Losing You’ because he thought the original title might bring bad luck. Later, he changed it back, joking about his own overcautious behavior.
