Noah Weiland, son of late Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland, has re-recorded his father’s band’s hit ‘Slither.’ Rolling Stone reported on the project.

The younger Weiland opened up about the creative vision behind the project and his approach to honoring his father’s legacy while establishing his own artistic identity.

“The video is supposed to be like a gnarly fever dream,” Noah Weiland said. “One second I’m running away from my own demons, the next I’m lusting over a girl that I have a crush on trying to save her. I even get a visit from my father in the dream as well, which is something that happens to me in real life as well.”

Weiland emphasized his desire for artistic independence when addressing his relationship with his father’s musical legacy.

“I don’t want my entire identity based on my father’s work,” he continued. “I would rather make music on my own terms that is true to myself, but the fans will love as well.”

Noah’s choice to cover “Slither” carries significant weight given the song’s importance in rock history and his father’s career trajectory.

The track “Slither” holds a special place in rock music. IMDB documented that it won the 2005 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. Wikipedia noted that the song was featured on Velvet Revolver’s debut album *Contraband*, which was released in June 2004 and marked the supergroup’s entry into the rock scene.

The songwriting process behind “Slither” was a collaborative effort that showcased the band’s collective talent. Second Hand Songs confirmed that the track was credited to all five members of Velvet Revolver: Dave Kushner, Slash, Scott Weiland, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum.

Velvet Revolver itself represented a unique fusion in rock history. The supergroup combined members from two of the most influential bands of the late 20th century. Wikipedia reported that the supergroup brought together former Guns N’ Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum with Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland. This collaboration created a sound that blended the best elements of both legendary acts.

The legacy of “Slither” continues to resonate in contemporary rock performances. 105.7 The Point featured Duff McKagan reflecting on the experience of playing the song with Guns N’ Roses. This demonstrates how the track remains relevant across different musical contexts.

The cover version and video represent Noah Weiland’s ongoing efforts to carve out his own path in music while paying tribute to his father’s influential career.
